SANTA CLARA — Richard Sherman’s best season as a 49er extends off the field. He is their nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, as announced Thursday morning by the NFL.
Sherman’s community service efforts extend both near and far, such as through his Blanket Coverage foundation to help low-income students. He’s also spent this season making regular visits to the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall and donating funds to various causes, such as covering school-cafeteria debts and helping sponsor a youth-football team in his native Compton.
