Defensive lineman B.J. McBryde is reuniting with coach Chip Kelly and filling the 49ers’ only roster vacancy, doing so Friday on the eve of their training camp’s reporting date.
McBryde was an undrafted rookie in Kelly’s Philadelphia Eagles training camp last year.
McBryde broke his right foot — a Jones fracture, of the fifth metatarsal — during Eagles camp last summer and went on injured reserve. The 6-foot-5, 292-pound Connecticut product got cut Monday by the Green Bay Packers, who signed him to their practice squad last November.
The 49ers defensive line had a proverbial vacancy once Kaleb Ramsey retired Thursday.
