It’s not an easy time for fringe players on the San Francisco 49ers, as head coach Kyle Shanahan and Co. are forced to trim down 90 players to formulate the 53-man roster ahead of the league-mandated deadline of Saturday, Aug. 31 at 4 p.m. ET.
One of the names released might not be too much of a shock.
Offensive guard Joshua Garnett, who fell out of favor with Shanahan in 2017 yet managed to hang around into 2018, is one player who’ll be seeking employment elsewhere this season. NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco reported the news early Saturday:
Garnett lost his bid to start in 2018 to then-free-agent pickup Mike Person, who is still penciled in as the starting right guard for 2019.
