49ers’ Release Release CB Chris Cook After One Season

The San Francisco 49ers today announced that they have released six-year veteran CB Chris Cook after one season. Cook, who signed with the 49ers after four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings will now be an unrestricted free-agent. In six games last year, Cook registered six tackles and one pass break-up before suffering a season-ending injury forcing him to miss the remainder of the season.

Originally drafted in the second-round (No. 34) of the 2010 NFL Draft, it appears that the 49ers are content with going younger and cheaper at the cornerback position. A position that looks to be a fierce camp battle as CB Shareece Wright, CB Dontae Johnson, and CB Keith Reaser all fight for a starting role, it will be interesting to see who prevails as Wright currently has the inside track.
