The San Francisco 49ers have already started making moves in order to finalize their 53-man roster ahead of Saturday’s cut deadline.
On Thursday, the Niners fell 27-24 to the Los Angeles Chargers in both teams’ finale of the 2019 preseason, which is inevitably followed by the arduous task of trimming the offseason roster down to those 53 players, plus the formation of a 10-man practice squad.
Among the first to go was veteran linebacker Malcolm Smith, who was cut early in order to get a jump start on his new-found free agency. On Friday, San Francisco announced the release of nine additional players:
- DL Jay Bromley
- CB Chris Campbell
- DB Jordan Holland
- CB Dontae Johnson
- OL Wesley Johnson
- TE Tyree Mayfield
- CB Quinten Rollins
- RB Brandon Wilds
- OT Sam Young
There aren’t too many surprises out of this list.
