Niners safety Eric Reid and outside linebacker Eli Harold will stand during the national anthem this season after they joined ex-teammate Colin Kaepernick in kneeling in 2016.
Reid told reporters about their plan to stand today, nearly two months after it was reported that Kaepernick also plans to stand during the anthem in 2017. Reid and Harold joined Kaepernick shortly after the quarterback sparked a national conversation with his protest in August.
“Our goal was open the floor to conversation,” Reid said. “I believe we achieved that goal. So now we just want to move forward and partner with people that are trying to make a change.
