The San Francisco 49ers keep finding ways to lose in 2018, and this time they can’t blame it on the turnover battle.
The Niners forced a pair of turnovers on Sunday — including one in the game’s final minutes — but the 49ers’ turnover margin wasn’t enough to overcome an inept offense and a defense that continues to fold under pressure.
After a sleep-inducing first half that produced a grand total of eight points, the 49ers appeared to break the game open mid-way through the third quarter. Quarterback C.J. Beathard — who was in the midst of the worst turnover-free game of his career — hit wide receiver Marquise Goodwin on a short pass, and the speedy wideout left cornerback Patrick Peterson in his dust en route to a 55-yard touchdown score:
After a quick punt by the Cardinals, the 49ers embarked on an 11-play drive that milked over six minutes off the clock.
