As the San Francisco 49ers finished up the final Organized Team Activity of the 2015 offseason, word quickly spread that right tackle Anthony Davis had announced his intentions to retire from the National Football League.
“Anthony’s been working on himself right now,” coach Jim Tomsula told reporters on Friday. “He has every right to do that. We wish him the best.”
Davis, 25, cited health concerns as his primary reasons for stepping away from the game. The team’s first-round draft pick in 2010 also tweeted that he’d consider returning to football at a later date.
Tomsula was quite candid in discussing Davis’ announcement.
