A former San Francisco 49ers first-round NFL Draft pick, defensive back Jimmie Ward, is returning to the squad on a one-year “prove it” deal, according to multiple reports.
SiriusXM NFL radio’s Adam Caplan was first to break the news, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted it was worth $5 million.
Ward, whom the Niners selected with the No. 30 overall pick back in 2014, has quite the injury history, landing on injured reserve with various ailments in four of his past five years at the pro level.
On the positive side, though, Ward has experience playing both safety spots, as well as both nickel and boundary cornerback.
