SANTA CLARA — The 49ers have promoted running Matthew Dayes to the active roster and have waived defensive back Tyvis Powell heading into their Monday night game facing the New York Giants.
A source confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco earlier on Monday that Dayes would be added to the active roster.
Dayes will be the team’s third running back behind Matt Breida and Alfred Morris. Jeff Wilson was the other candidate from the practice squad available to be promoted.
When the team lost running back Raheem Mostert to a season-ending injury, they also lost a valuable special teams contributor.
