With the San Francisco 49ers‘ secondary a bit banged up in advance of their Week 3 road matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, the team elected to make a transaction to beef up their defensive backfield.
As announced on the team’s website, the Niners promoted defensive back Tyvis Powell off the practice squad Saturday afternoon.
To make room on the 53-man roster, San Francisco released linebacker Terence Garvin, who was signed to a one-year deal a week ago after Brock Coyle (concussion) went to injured reserve.
Powell, 24 years old, first joined the Niners practice squad in November 2017 after the Seattle Seahawks parted ways with him.
