The San Francisco 49ers announced a pair of transactions on Saturday, promoting defensive back Tyvis Powell and releasing linebacker Terence Garvin. Both moves shouldn’t be surprising. With Reuben Foster off suspension and Malcolm Smith (hopefully) getting ready to play, the 49ers didn’t need a linebacker. Unfortunately, the secondary is banged up with safety Jaquiski Tartt listed as questionable due to a shoulder injury. They need secondary help now.
Powell saw some action in late 2017 getting promoted in the later-half of December. He recorded three tackles. He was released in 2018 during roster cuts and sent back to the practice squad.
