49ers plan on fighting for roster spots rather than fighting against Texans in joint practice session

SANTA CLARA _ When 49ers coach Chip Kelly and Houston coach Bill O’Brien address their respective teams Friday, they’ll leave out the phrase “Let’s get ready to rumble.”

If the 49ers and Texans cooperate on the field, there will be no need for Michael Buffer before a joint practice session preceding Sunday’s preseason opener for both teams.

“We’re trying to get a good, quality practice,” Kelly said. “We’re not trying to turn it into a WWE wrestling match.”

Both teams understand it’s not unusual for tempers to flare when given the opportunity to hit someone from a different team, particularly when roster spots are on the line.
