SANTA CLARA – Inside linebacker Michael Wilhoite, who started all 16 games last season in place of NaVorro Bowman, reported to training camp with a muscle strain in his leg and was placed on active/non-football injury.
Coach Jim Tomsula said he does not believe the injury will keep Wilhoite out of action for too long, but “we’re not going to rush him back,” he said. Wilhoite is projected to start this season, alongside Bowman.
Center Daniel Kilgore is expected out until at least the middle of training camp after undergoing a follow-up procedure on his left lower leg, which he fractured last season.
