As if taking a 1-13 record into Christmas week isn’t indignity enough, now the 49ers are scrambling simply to fill out their roster.
Head coach Chip Kelly said Monday that three players who were hurt in Sunday’s 41-13 loss to Atlanta will miss the rest of the season. Wide receiver Quinton Patton (foot injury), linebacker Nick Bellore (elbow) and tight end Blake Bell (shoulder) will not play Saturday against Los Angeles or Jan. 2 against Seattle.
That leaves the 49ers searching for players to bring aboard as soon as possible. Two other players — center Marcus Martin (ankle) and cornerback Jimmie Ward (shoulder) — did not finish Sunday’s game, and Kelly said defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey also is nursing an undisclosed injury.
