The San Francisco 49ers pass rush has been problematic. I realize that is not breaking news, but it bears repeating. The 49ers have not been able to get anything resembling a consistent pass rush, and all the stats bear that out. The 49ers are 30th in the NFL with 17 sacks, and Ahmad Brooks currently leads the team with 3.5 sacks. Football Outsiders ranks the 49ers 28th in adjusted sack rate. That stat measures sacks (plus intentional grounding penalties) per pass attempt adjusted for down, distance, and opponent.
Quarterback hurries and hits are important measurements as well, but recently Tony Khan, Jacksonville Jaguars senior VP for football technology and analytics, posted some interesting stats related to sacks per drop back.
