The 49ers have reached an injury settlement with running back Kendall Hunter, meaning their 2011 fourth-round pick is now a free agent.
Hunter, 27, who is 14 months removed from sustaining a torn ACL, was placed on injured reserve Sept. 5. After sitting out the start of the exhibition season, he had 36 yards on 17 carries in the final two preseason games.
After he was placed on injured reserve, head coach Jim Tomsula said Hunter hadn’t fully recovered.
“He’s just got to have that (knee) checked,” Tomsula said.
