49ers part ways with injured OLB Chase Thomas

Niners outside linebacker Chase Thomas was waived/injured by the team today after he sustained a torn ACL during offseason training at Stanford.

Thomas, 25, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent from Stanford in 2013, made his NFL playing debut with the 49ers in November. He only played on special teams in five games and had two tackles.

The 49ers’ outside linebacker corps includes Aldon Smith, Ahmad Brooks, Aaron Lynch, Corey Lemonier and Eli Harold, who was selected in the third round of the NFL draft Friday.

The 49ers also officially placed inside linebacker Chris Borland on the reserve/retired list today.
