It should be no surprise to anyone that the 49ers have been inactive in terms of making significant free-agent signings so far this offseason. John Lynch essentially said at the Combine that the 49ers were trying to make their roster cheaper and younger, and they have stuck to that plan.
The surprising element of their approach to this point is that, as they have purged the depth chart of several defensive linemen, the 49ers have not brought in any to improve their depth up front.
