Before the end of the season, former general manager Trent Baalke extended the contract of tight end Vance McDonald, effectively granting him a three-year, $19.7 million extension. The contract makes 2013 draft pick the 19th highest paid tight end, nothing to overly worry about.
Or is it?
Later in the offseason, the 49ers signed former Bears tight end Logan Paulsen (who played under Kyle Shanahan in Washington), drafted Iowa tight end George Kittle and signed undrafted free agent from Louisville, Cole Hikutuni.
Heading into training camp, the 49ers have some pretty good tight end competition.
