49ers offensive lineman under fire for NFL-worst grade

While the San Francisco 49ers roster has plenty of superstars, one lesser-known starter is coming under fire.

Center Jake Brendel has had a brutal start to the 2024 season, especially on the pass-blocking front. In fact, by one metric, he’s been the worst at his position in the entire NFL.

The football analytics website Pro Football Focus ranks each player in a football game and then gives them a number grade, from zero to 100. Over the first two games, Brendel’s pass-blocking grade is a league-worst 29.5 — more than 10 points worse than the second-to-last center, the Rams’ Beaux Limmer, at 40.
