49ers OC Chryst: Gabbert a young QB 'with a lot of upside'

SANTA CLARA –- Quarterback Blaine Gabbert’s seven-game run as the 49ers’ starting quarterback, entering Sunday’s season finale, has been a mixed bag.

While there has been noticeable improvements in some areas, the bottom line has been mostly unchanged. The 49ers are still not scoring points, and their win-loss record has remained unchanged, too.

But 49ers offensive coordinator Geep Chryst opened his press conference Thursday with unsolicited positive words about how Gabbert has performed.

The 49ers are 2-5 with Gabbert as the starter entering the finale against the St. Louis Rams at Levi’s Stadium. And the 49ers’ offense has yet to produce more than two touchdowns in any game since Gabbert’s promotion.
