49ers notes: Thinking Super Bowl after last year's 'jumbled mess'

SANTA CLARA -- On paper, the 49ers’ offseason did not go so well.

The results produced from all the comings and goings will not be known for a while. But there is little denying the 2014 regular season was a disaster, as the 49ers won just eight games and achieved a far worse record off the field.

“Last year was a jumbled mess in a lot of different areas,” 49ers left tackle Joe Staley said on Friday, the day the full squad reported to training camp.

Jim Harbaugh is not back as head coach. The offseason also saw the departures of Frank Gore, Justin Smith, Patrick Willis, Mike Iupati, Anthony Davis, Michael Crabtree and the two cornerbacks who started a combined 28 games last season.
