In what could be viewed as a symbolic move, 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula accompanied wide receiver Jerome Simpson after practice today to discuss Simpson’s just-handed-down six-game suspension with a group of reporters.
With Tomsula by his side, Simpson, 29, who will be serving his third suspension, said he appreciated the 49ers taking a chance by signing him in March. The 49ers did so knowing about Simpson’s checkered past and the likelihood that another suspension was in his future.
Simpson admitted he didn’t think he would play in the NFL again after the Vikings released him in September.
