SANTA CLARA -- Arik Armstead is expected to have surgery within the week on his injured left shoulder, prompting the 49ers to reshuffle their lineup a bit along the defensive line.
Chip Kelly on Wednesday said Quinton Dial, who has played both nose tackle and defensive end in the team's 3-4 base defense, will concentrate on defensive end from this point forward.
He, first-round pick DeForest Buckner, fifth-round pick Ronald Blair and Tony Jerod-Eddie will rotate at the two end spots. After Armstead left the game Sunday, Blair mostly entered on passing downs while Jerod-Eddie played base downs.
