SANTA CLARA -- Defensive lineman DeForest Buckner has gone from third string to first string in training camp, and fellow 49ers' first-round pick Joshua Garnett may soon follow the same path.
Garnett began camp on the third-string offensive line, lining up at right guard next to tackle Anthony Davis. In recent practices, however, that duo mostly has worked with the second-team offensive line, and it's not farfetched to think the two could be starters in Week 1.
Garnett was drafted 28th overall in April and was the first guard selected. The first-string offensive line so far in camp has included right tackle Trent Brown and right guard Andrew Tiller.
