49ers notes: Anthony Davis plays guard for first time in nine years

SANTA CLARA -- Anthony Davis started Friday's contest at right guard, his first in-game snaps at that position since he was a freshman at Rutgers University.

Davis, who was the 49ers' starting right tackle from 2010-2014, sat out last season because of health concerns. When he rejoined the team this summer, his right-tackle spot had been taken by Trent Brown.

Davis said he volunteered to play guard because he knew he had the athleticism to make the move.

“I’m an athlete,” Davis said last week. “I can play right tackle. I can play anywhere along the line.
