Raise your hand if you predicted the San Francisco 49ers selecting former Notre Dame offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey with the team’s first pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
There likely aren’t many of you.
It was a pretty surprising pick to say the least. Instead, a good chunk of fans likely thought general manager John Lynch would go after someone like Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith or Florida State safety Derwin James. San Francisco’s defense needed help, and either Smith or James would have been immediate-impact players from day one.
Well, McGlinchey is becoming one of those too.
