Saturday could go down as a milestone day in 49ers history, assuming that Kyle Shanahan indeed becomes their coaching savior and he helps identify a complementary general manager for the franchise’s desired turnaround.
Shanahan still can’t be officially hired until after next weekend’s Super Bowl, but the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator is expected to join the 49ers brass during Saturday interviews with GM finalists Terry McDonough and George Paton in Atlanta. If all goes well, the 49ers could have their next GM in place by Saturday night.
Paton, the Minnesota Vikings assistant general manager, is one of six candidates for the Indianapolis Colts general manager job that opened last Saturday, and he was among the first wave interviewed this week.
