Torrey Smith practiced Wednesday like the No. 1 receiver he is on the 49ers, even if some think that status is by default.
Smith went all out and came up with several impressive catches, including a 50-yard, diving grab against Jimmie Ward’s coverage down the right sideline during the first 7-on-7 session.
Blaine Gabbert, who threw that pass to Smith, found him again in a later, 7-on-7 session focusing on red-zone managment. This time, Smith again made a diving catch and spiked the ball as a would-be touchdown celebration.
Smith beat Tramaine Brock in 11-on-11 action to set up an ensuing touchdown pass to Bruce Ellington.
