The San Francisco 49ers, despite orchestrating a contract with Colin Kaepernick that gives them an out every season for the rest of his deal, might actually end up stuck with Kaepernick for one more season.
The 49ers officially can release Kaepernick at any point before April 1st and not be on the hook for his $13.9 million salary for the 2016 season. There is, however, a catch: Kaepernick’s contract is guaranteed for injury even before April 1st. With Kaepernick undergoing shoulder surgery this past Tuesday morning, he may not be able to pass a physical before then.
