The San Francisco 49ers ended the 2022 NFL Draft by selecting Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy with the 262nd overall selection. Purdy becomes the latest Mr. Irrelevant, a title given to the final player selected every year.
Purdy was a four-year starter for the Cyclones, generating some draft buzz in 2018 and 2019, but he ultimately plateaued over his final two college seasons. Purdy’s sophomore campaign in 2019 was easily the most productive of his career. In 13 games, he completed 65.7% of his passes for 3,982 yards and 27 touchdowns while throwing just nine interceptions.
