The 49ers made history Wednesday night. They became the first team NFL history to host a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning event.
The team hosted the documentary “Out to Win,” a film about LGBTQ athletes, which was featured at Frameline’s San Francisco International LGBTQ Film Festival this past June and July.
Former 49er Dave Kopay, the first NFL player to come out as gay after he left the game, was a prominent subject of “Out to win.” Kopay began his career in San Francisco and played running back and special teams for the 49ers from 1964-67 before playing for Detroit (1968), Washington (1969-70), New Orleans (1971) and Green Bay (1972).
