You can exhale, 49ers fans. Your team has locked up Jimmy Garoppolo on a long-term deal.
The 49ers announced the deal Thursday afternoon and a press conference has been scheduled for Friday. According to the NFL Network, the contract is worth as much as $137.5 million contract. That averaged $27.5 million a year, making it the richest deal in NFL history.
The 49ers, of course, are a franchise known for its quarterbacks. Three of them -- Y.A. Tittle, Joe Montana and Steve Young -- are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
But none created the early buzz Garoppolo was able to generate.
