Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice criticized 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan for his play calling on Sunday, implicitly blaming the coach for an ankle injury that had star wideout Deebo Samuel carted off.
Rice posted a picture of Samuel on Instagram during halftime of the Niners-Bucs game. "Please stop running our skill player up the middle," Rice wrote. "@trey.lance @jimmypolo10 now @19problemz all hurt!!"
Rice, who played for the Niners from 1985-2000, is arguably the greatest receiver in NFL history and a constant presence at 49ers games.
Samuel was hurt on a run up the middle; the Niners said he wouldn't return to Sunday's game.
