San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch felt the need to step in and defend head coach Kyle Shanahan after a reporter referenced past comments the coach made about special teams.
During the duo’s end-of-season press conference, Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard asked about the team’s special teams struggles. Throughout this past 6-11 season, the Niners would commit some sort of blunder in that portion of the game at least once a week, whether it was by way of blocked punt, muffed return or missed field goals.
