49ers’ Jimmy Garoppolo not surprised by Kyle Shanahan’s critique

On Saturday, after Jimmy Garoppolo completed 10 of 12 passes and threw a touchdown pass on his two drives in a preseason loss at Houston, head coach Kyle Shanahan sounded thoroughly unimpressed.

Shanahan explained the first-team offense “got fortunate on a couple of plays,” and later highlighted Garoppolo’s good luck. Shanahan suggested Garoppolo completed some passes despite not reading the defense properly.

“Sometimes he doesn’t always go through (his progressions) right and still makes some plays,” Shanahan said. “We’re hard on him about that stuff. By no means was it perfect; there was a number he could be better on.
