49ers interview Cardinals exec Terry McDonough for GM

Terry McDonough got his start as a scouting intern for the 49ers in 1989, the year they won Super Bowl XXIV over the Denver Broncos.

Light years later, it seems, McDonough, 51, is in Santa Clara interviewing for the job which would in theory pull the personnel strings to return the 49ers to those glory days.

McDonough, the 49ers announced Wednesday, is interviewing for the job general manager to replace the fired Trent Baalke.

As vice president of player personnel for the Arizona Cardinals, McDonough oversees both the college and pro personnel departments and assists with contract negotiations.
