A measure on Tuesday’s ballot to change how the city of Santa Clara gets its police chief became yet another front in the battle between the city government and the San Francisco 49ers.
Measure B, which asked residents if Santa Clara should change its city charter to remove the election for police chief and make it an appointed position, was voted down Tuesday. With all precincts reporting, No on Measure B had 72.34%. The results mean Santa Clara will remain the only city in California to hold an election to fill the police chief position — something 49ers-aligned politicians seemed keen to change.
