SANTA CLARA — The 49ers addressed their need for safety depth by re-signing veteran Antone Exum Jr. on Wednesday, a day after J.J. Wilcox spurned them for the New York Jets.
Still on the free agent market is Eric Reid, a 49ers starter much of the past five seasons who’s filed a collusion lawsuit against the NFL for his lingering unemployment.
Exum appeared in only two games last season after being signed Nov. 7.
The 49ers have three safeties rehabilitating leg injuries — Chanceller James, Don Jones, Marcell Harris — heading into next week’s mandatory minicamp.
