SANTA CLARA -- Wide receiver Deebo Samuel and defensive lineman Ronald Blair could be available when the 49ers open the regular season Sept. 13 against the Arizona Cardinals.
But coach Kyle Shanahan said Thursday the club will not have receiver Richie James, center Weston Richburg or defensive lineman Jullian Taylor available for the opener. Those players are expected to miss at least the first six weeks of the season due to their injuries.
Samuel and James are on the non-football injury list after sustaining injuries in June workouts away from Santa Clara. Samuel is rehabbing from a fractured foot, while James is sidelined as he rehabs from surgery to repair a fractured wrist.
