The 49ers have hired former Rams executive Ran Carthon to replace Mike Williams as their director of pro personnel.
Carthon, 36, played running back with the Colts in 2004 and also had short stints with the Packers, Seahawks and Lions. He is the son of former running back Maurice Carthon, who played eight seasons for the Giants.
The younger Carthon spent the previous five seasons as the Rams' director of pro personnel, the department that oversees free agency and advanced scouting for the team's opponents.
“Ran has a clear vision for how he plans to run our pro personnel department, and was excited about the opportunity to blend his approach with ours," general manager John Lynch said in a statement.
