Whether Carlos Hyde returns Sunday from a shoulder injury he suffered Oct. 16 against the Buffalo Bills, DuJuan Harris should continue to get meaningful playing time at running back. He has been excellent as a pass catcher and, belying his 5-foot-7 frame, refused to go down easily on first contact. The 49ers need more effort like that if they are to break their seven-game losing streak.
Early in his career, Tramaine Brock was an interception machine. But the starting cornerback hasn’t had an interception since Oct. 22, 2015. Snatching his first interception this season – or any kind of takeaway – is critical for a 49ers defense that doesn’t seem to have much fire or passion and could use some momentum.
