While the preseason opener may have ended in defeat for the 49ers, there were plenty of positives, including the play in the secondary.
The 49ers secondary is unproven, particularly at cornerback, with a plethora of young players jockeying for playing time on the back end of the defense. However, in Sunday’s preseason loss to the Houston Texans, San Francisco was provided with some clarity as to which corners will be on the depth chart come the start of the 2016 season.
Despite the 24-13 scoreline, the 49ers defense largely impressed against the pass, with Texans starting quarterback Brock Osweiler restricted to four completions for just 27 yards.
