ATHERTON -- Some 200 children and several professional athletes got together at Menlo College on May 21 for the third annual Children's Champions event, sponsored by the Wender Weis Foundation for Children, and Fit Kids.
According to a press release, the event brings "together children of all ages and backgrounds to create lasting memories while learning how to make fitness fun." It is intended to support efforts to support at-risk kids in the Bay Area. This year's event saw Stanford football coach David Shaw present Jerry Rice, a Hall of Fame receiver for the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders, with the Change Maker Award, "celebrating his efforts in leveraging his platform for social good.
