49ers’ GM Trent Baalke Believes DE Arik Armstead To Be Rare Breed

When the San Francisco 49ers drafted DE Arik Armstead in the first-round (No. 17), I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the selection. A player with huge upside who played with a high pad-level, I wasn’t sold that Armstead could crack the starting lineup on one of the most dominant defensive lines in the NFL.

However, Armstead has been receiving high praise since training camp and getting positive 360 degree feedback from both his peers, teammates, and coaching staff. Just ask 12-year veteran DE Darnell Dockett his thoughts on the Oregon product as he believes that Armstead has a ‘higher upside” than former Arizona Cardinals teammate DE Calais Campbell.
