Where John Lynch, the 49ers and quarterback evaluation intersect, there is David Shaw.
OK, maybe Shaw is on the outskirts of that intersection. But the Stanford coach has a unique perspective on Lynch, the 49ers’ new general manager, and his No. 1 priority: Finding a franchise quarterback.
Shaw played with Lynch at Stanford in the early 1990s and has stayed in touch over the years. (His father, Willie, an assistant coach at the time, was instrumental in Lynch’s move from quarterback to safety.)
Shaw evaluates quarterbacks for his role as draft analyst for the NFL Network; he went head-to-head last season with two of the top quarterback prospects in the 2017 draft (North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky and Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer).
