MINNEAPOLIS – Three interceptions and too few touchdowns killed Jimmy Garoppolo’s perfect record as a starting quarterback Sunday.

With little room for error against last year’s NFC runners-up, a lot went wrong other than Garoppolo’s accuracy in the 49ers’ season-opening, 24-16 defeat to the host Minnesota Vikings.

A precursor to the doom was Alfred Morris’ first-half fumble at the Vikings 1-yard line. But the 49ers go as Garoppolo goes, and what stung most were three passes that got intercepted after halftime, the first of which rookie Mike Hughes easily returned for a touchdown and an insurmountable, 17-3 lead.
