SANTA CLARA – The fact the 49ers have chosen defensive players with each of their first three draft picks counts only as a mild surprise.
But the 49ers have yet to add players at cornerback or inside linebacker, the two position seen as the team’s largest defensive needs entering the draft.
The 49ers selected Samford safety Jaquiski Tartt in the second round (No. 46 overall) after drafting safeties Eric Reid and Jimmie Ward in the first round the previous two years.
“In every sport, one thing that’s common is you stay strong up the middle,” 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said Friday night.
