SANTA CLARA -- Wide receiver Bruce Ellington, who got off to a strong start in training camp, had a setback during practice Monday evening.
Ellington sustained a leg muscle strain late in practice while running a pass pattern. He appeared to be in discomfort and did not take part in a drill fielding punts from Bradley Pinion shortly thereafter. On Tuesday, coach Jim Tomsula revealed that Ellington would not practice in the team’s first scheduled padded on-field work later in the day.
The injury is not related to the hamstring strain that kept Ellington out of action through most of the offseason program, Tomsula said.
